Moral Formation / Ascetical & Mystical Prayer
Virtue is a habit of the mind, consistent with nature and moderation and reason. Virtue is its own reward. Glory follows virtue as if it were its shadow. - Cicero
For there are many souls who are in the outer courtyard—which is where the guards stay—and don’t care at all about entering the castle, nor do they know what lies within that most precious place, nor who is within, nor even how many rooms it has. You have already heard in some books on prayer that the soul is advised to enter within itself. Well, that’s the very thing I’m advising.
—Teresa of Avila, The Interior Castle
We provide resources for the moral formation prerequisite for the mystical life of prayer (transforming union with God). This moral formation is traditionally called the Ascetical Life. It is focused on the traditional virtues and opposing vices which occupy each decision we face in life.
This first aspect of our mission ties into the second aspect of our mission, connecting with local agrarian catholic families, in that our Verax Patria network of families are able to provide guidance and thoughts on proper Catholic moral formation in the context of daily family living and how to incorporate a life of prayer within the context of the domestic church. This is a life journey. We are a network of families committed to virtue together and forming bonds in always seeking the higher road together as laid out in the Gospels, the Church Fathers, through the Magisterial Teaching of the Catholic Church, and through the writings of the Saints throughout the centuries. Different families are offering different approaches to sharing this information, from phone calls, to building friendships, to holding demonstration farm events where talks on virtue and vice are presented, to discovering new friends to live "the good life" with on a normal basis, forming community.
